About us:

Dialogue Earth is a UK-registered charity headquartered in London. Our mission is to serve the global movement for sustainability with accurate information delivered in innovative and compelling ways, building trust and encouraging cooperation. We seek to create a shared bedrock of accurate information that can support constructive dialogue, sound policy and informed public debate.

Our approach is rooted in a network of specialist country editors located across South and Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America, and delivered through reporting in eight languages, workshops, and media partnerships. This global approach builds on two decades of experience reporting on China and deep expertise in the science of climate change, while continuing to broaden the scope and the reach of our journalism.

We cover climate, energy, critical minerals, nature, oceans, pollution, water, politics, health, justice and the global economy, through balanced, fact-based, on-the ground reporting. We focus on the impact of climate change on the lives and livelihoods of those most affected by it and create impact by bringing compelling stories from local voices to our key global audiences.

About the role:

The London-based China assistant editor will cover major environmental and climate developments with a focus on China. This role will produce impactful, evidence based analysis pieces that explain how climate change, energy transitions, industrial development and environmental governance are shaping lives, economies and ecosystems. The ideal candidate would be proactive, highly organised and self-motivated, with relevant professional experience paired with excellent writing and communications skills, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

This role will closely work with Dialogue Earth’s China program team to write articles, feed into editorial strategy and outreach and support the programme team to deliver other required outputs.

Main Responsibilities:

●  Identifying, pitching, and writing original content that aligns with Dialogue Earth’s editorial priorities. The output will include analysis, in-depth features, multimedia articles, news digests and newsletters;
●  Developing and maintaining networks of partners across media, NGOs, think tanks, and industry;
●  Organizing and facilitating roundtables, workshops and other events;
●  Evaluating and monitoring project progress and impact.

Essential experience, knowledge and skills:

●  Native Chinese speaker, fluent in spoken and written English;
●  Excellent writing and editing and skills with demonstrable evidence in journalism or publishing.
●  Familiar with environmental, climate and energy issues; familiar with the Chinese media landscape and political context.
●  Ability to establish and maintain a network of contacts.
●  Strong interpersonal communications skills and time-management skills.

●  Curriculum Vitae (CV) (in English);
●  Contact details for 2 professional referees. We will not contact referees without prior consent;

Both pitches should be China-focused. We’re looking for ideas that reflect strong editorial judgement, a clear, compelling angle, why now is the right time to tell it, and a sense of how you’d approach the reporting (sourcing, structure, visuals, etc.).

The CV and cover letter must be submitted in English. The story pitches must be submitted in Chinese.
