About us:

The London-based, Chinese-language editor provides high-level editorial support to the work of Dialogue Earth’s China programme to advance communications on China’s climate and environment issue. The editor will closely work with Dialogue Earth’s China programme team to write, edit and commission articles, coordinate editorial planning and support the programme team to deliver other required outputs.

This role will focus in particular on expanding our coverage of the climate-gender nexus in China, alongside general support of the China programme’s work. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in reporting and editing, as well as a keen interest in climate issues, especially on China’s climate-gender nexus, strengthening recognition of both the differentiated impacts of climate change and the green transition on women and girls, and women’s knowledge, perspectives and leadership in climate action.

We expect the successful candidate to be well-connected and able to build partnerships with NGOs, think tanks and institutions focused on the climate-gender nexus. They should have relevant professional experience and excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Main Responsibilities:

● Leading editorial projects, including planning editorial content and managing the project budgets, when necessary;
● Writing, commissioning and editing editorial content for the Dialogue Earth website and other platforms;
● Managing editorial flows, translation processes and coordinating between regional editorial teams;
● Developing syndication and content-sharing relationships with media;
● Building and maintaining a diverse pool of talented freelance writers to deliver stories and multimedia;
● Evaluating and monitoring project progress and impact;
● Providing editorial support and input to editorial projects when necessary;
● Organizing and facilitating Dialogue Earth roundtables, workshops, and other events when necessary;
● Working with the wider team, including production, multimedia and social media colleagues, to ensure our work is well presented and amplified to the right audiences.

Essential experience, knowledge and skills:

● Native Chinese speaker, fluent in spoken and written English;
● Excellent research, writing and editing skills;
● Minimum 4 years of previous work experience in journalism, publishing or related fields;
● Experience of managing stories and freelance writers, preparing and developing story briefs, providing feedback and editing first drafts;
● Familiar with environmental, climate and energy issues;
● Familiar with the Chinese media landscape and political context;
● Editorial judgement in identifying high-impact angles ranging from timely news and analysis to in-depth reporting;
● An understanding of the climate–gender nexus, along with an established network of contacts among Chinese journalists, researchers, and NGOs—ideally including women experts in climate and energy—would be an advantage;
● Strong interpersonal communication skills and time-management skills.

How to apply:

Please submit the following to [email protected] with ‘Application: China Editor’ in the subject line by 12pm (GMT) Monday 2 November 2026:
● Curriculum Vitae (CV) (in English);
● Contact details for 2 professional referees. We will not contact referees without prior consent;
● Cover letter (in English), detailing your previous experience and interest in the role. Please note that cover letters will be assessed as part of the application. Applications without a cover letter, or with a cover letter entirely generated by AI tools, will be rejected;
● Two story pitches (in Chinese) for Dialogue Earth under the thematic of climate-gender nexus, each including a suggested headline, a standfirst, a short outline (4-6 bulletins), a list of interviewees. Both pitches should be China-focused. We’re looking for ideas that reflect strong editorial judgement, a clear, compelling angle, why now is the right time to tell it, and a sense of how you’d approach the reporting (sourcing, structure, visuals, etc.).

The CV and cover letter must be submitted in English. The story pitches must be submitted in Chinese.

Interviews will be held in November or December. Shortlisted candidates will also be asked to complete an edit test.
